The Old 97s Friday Night

Counted among the pioneers of the Alternative Country genre, The Old 97s are Festival at the Switchyard’s Friday night headline act. Influenced by Johnny Cash, and named after his top hit “Wreck of the Old ‘97,” this popular Texas band is a real crowd-pleaser.

The Polyphonic Spree Friday Night

Sharing the limelight on the main stage is The Polyphonic Spree. This self-described “choral symphonic rock” group — with 23 robe-clad vocalists and musicians — was inspired by 70’s experimental rock bands, like ELO (Electric Light Orchestra).

Robert Earl Keen Saturday Night

Among the large contingent of talented songwriters who emerged in Texas in the 1980s and 1990s, Robert Earl Keen struck an unusual balance between sensitive story-portraits ("Corpus Christi Bay") and raucous barroom fun ("That Buckin' Song"). These two song types in Keen's output were unified by a caustic sense of humor that strongly influenced the early practitioners of what would become known as alternative country music.
